God Has Prepared Us

dotWe believe God prepared our family for life and ministry in Japan in four ways:

Background: Who we are and where we came from.

Training: Our formal and informal education.

Ministry: Our many years and many ways of serving Christ.

Passion: Our heart to bring hope to Japan.

Steven's Background

dotSteven grew up in Birmingham, Alabama, and ran wild in the streets until he met Jesus Christ at age 19. He immediately left behind a life of drugs and alcohol to follow Him, enrolling in Southeastern Bible College two months after his conversion. But his troubled youth has given him a deeper understanding and compassion towards those who struggle with emptiness, despair, and futility. It is part of his burden for the Japanese people, and he believes God will use these past experiences in ministry to them.

dotSteven has always enjoyed meeting people from different countries, and is fascinated to observe and learn about diverse cultures. He has 18 years of experience working in an Asian context, and has been greatly helped by over 12 years of marriage to Kyehee.

Kyehee's Background

dotKyehee grew up in Pusan, a seacoast city on the southern tip of Korea. Her parents are strong Christians who are very involved in world evangelism. As a young girl, her family often played host to visiting missionaries, and she became very interested in other cultures and lands. She heard the gospel from a young age, and when she was 15 years old made a public profession of faith before her church family.

dotKyehee's upbringing in Korea has especially prepared her for life and ministry in Japan. Although there are differences between Korea and Japan, there are many things quite similar. Kyehee's understanding of Asian customs, religion and general mindset will definitely be used by God for effective ministry in Japan.
